Get startedDoorDash Background Check
If you’re an aspiring Dasher, you’ll need to pass DoorDash’s background check before you can start working.
So, if you decide to sign up for DoorDash to become a delivery driver, here’s what you need to about the background check process, what documents you need and how long it may take to get approved.
DoorDash background check
Every person who registers to become a DoorDash driver is required to pass a secure background check before they start earning money on the platform. They enlist the help of a third-party company called Checkr to manage the background checks.
This is an industry standard for verifying your identity and checking your driving and criminal records.

How Checkr works
Checkr is the official company that DoorDash uses to carry out background checks on prospective and existing Dashers. They’re done as part of the signup process and to approve new Dashers. You need to provide your consent before they initiate this procedure.
Ongoing monitoring
Keep in mind that even after you’ve been an established DoorDash driver, the company may select you to go through another background check. This is because they want to see if there have been any new or updated charges against you since you first registered with the company.
Plus, Checkr can provide updated reports on new offenses that have occurred after your completed background check. If you do have new offenses, you may be disqualified from being a DoorDash driver.
How to pass the DoorDash background check
As part of your background check, they will look at the following documents to ensure that you’re a safe and reliable driver:
- Identity verification: you’ll need to provide your phone number, email address, social security number (SSN), and date of birth.
- Motor vehicle report: you must have a clean driving record to pass.
- Criminal history report: approval contingent on the type of offense, when the conviction occurred, and if it’s related to the responsibilities of a Dasher.
As long as you have a clean driving record and no criminal offenses, you should be approved to drive on the platform.
DoorDash background check disqualifications
Here are the common reasons why you may be disqualified.
Driving records
- Driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (DUI)
- Traffic violations
- Driving accidents
Criminal records
- If your name appears in the National Sex Offender Registry within the past seven years.
- If you have criminal records within the past seven years, such as theft, property damage, violent crimes, or felonies.
How long the process takes
The DoorDash background check time can vary. Sometimes it can be processed as fast as one business day, but generally, it should take between five to seven business days. Patience is required when going through the Checkr process as it’s not uncommon for there to be delays.
If you state that you plan to deliver by bicycle, Checkr will not need to review your motor vehicle history. This may help expedite your approval process.
Reasons why the approval process takes a long time
Longer wait times may be due to backlogs with the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and local county office.
Another reason is if they find that you have driving and/or criminal charges. This will likely add additional time to the approval process.
If you have any questions regarding your application, you can contact Checkr Support.
DoorDash background check status
If you’re curious about the status of your background check with Checkr, you can visit the Checkr Candidate Portal. Here are the following statuses and what they mean:
Clear: Congrats! You passed the background check, and you can follow the next steps to start dashing.
Consider: Your background check has been processed and is under internal review.
Pending: Your background check is still being processed. They may require additional information.
Suspended: You may need to provide more information or documentation for your background check to move forward.
Disputed: If you’ve disputed a decision, it may take up to 30 days for it to be reviewed.
Disputing a decision
Unfortunately, not all applicants will get approved to become a DoorDash driver. If Checkr has flagged your profile, you will receive a Pre-Adverse Action notice by email. It will contain a copy of your report and information on how you can dispute it.
If you believe that it’s in error, you’ll need to provide additional information to the company to reconsider their decision. If you don’t take any action, your Dasher account will be deactivated.
